Red, White and Blue - You know what to do!

What's done is done! I voted this afternoon on my lunch break and good job, neighborhood - everything was very efficient. There was no line, I walked right in, marked up some bubbles and walked out with my sticker and a sense of accomplishment.

It's almost time for me to go home and just wait for the results, well, MORE results since Kentucky and Vermont are already decided. Heather's coming over tonight to watch election results. Please don't let me down, California. I have a bottle of wine and I'm not afraid to use it.

I haven't posted in a super long time, so here are some quick things before Heather and I run out to scour newsstands in the Los Angeles area to find a copy of Interview magazine with that photo of Rob Pattinson in it. Shame? What's that?

Speaking of having no shame, it's almost Fall, so time to reflect on the Summer. Which, was pretty shitty overall for me, but there were some bright spots and silliness that I kind of need to put out there on the internet. Sort of like an atonement! Numbered list, anyone?

Summertime Guilty Pleasures )

Things I didn't do this Summer: 1) finish Breaking Dawn (I refuse!), 2) get overly involved with Big Brother (watched occasionally but still enjoyed it), 3) as so lovingly reminded just now by Heather: get Beck tickets. Still upset about that one.

One last thing: Oh, Jeopardy! not you, too.

My sorrows, they learned to swim

Heh - I have a ton of work on my desk, but I'm here instead. Ooops.

So, REALLY, Emmy's? Boston Legal (which isn't really even a drama, right?) and Damages, but not The Wire for Best Drama Series? You couldn't even just throw it a token (pun not intended but hey...) nomination in that category?

Anyways, whatever, who cares, it's not like I'm gonna boycott the ceremony or anything.

Mamma Mia! tonight and I AM SO EXCITED. I have ABBA on my iPod to torture [info]sweetcynic23 with later.

OH YEAH. So, I went to Starbucks on my way to work this morning because I slept poorly last night and needed some caffeine. When my order was ready, the barista called out, "A soy vanilla latte for... (*reads cup*) Sean!" I stepped up and said, "Is it Susan?" And she says, "Oh, Susan, yeah." I thought, wow, the girl who wrote on my cup must have some funky handwriting, so I look at the cup when I get it, and it looks like this:

I know the poor girl has probably been up for ages but I thought it was funny that she read that as Sean. Damn good latte, though!

OH HEY - one more thing. My brother called this morning with a question - he was thinking of a video from the 1980's, or early 1990's that took place at a circus or had clowns or a fun house or something like that. I guessed Mariah Carey's "Fantasy" since I knew that was at an amusement park and Usher's "My Way" since I think that has clowns or something but he said it was from earlier than that. Any guesses?

la-traffic as a way of life
I am a failure! I didn't finish my 12 of 12 this month. But I have a great excuse! I started it, but then after work, I went to grab my camera and it wasn't in my purse! I figured I had left it at work so I just kind of blew off taking photos. The next morning I was getting in my car to go to work and the camera was right there, sitting on my passenger seat. D'oh! So, I'm toying with the idea of doing a 12 of 16 since it's my day off. I know, I'm a cheat.

So, exciting news - I bought a new car! Well, a new to me car. It's a 2006 Honda Civic coupe. Art and I had been a single car family for quite some time, but that wasn't quite working for us anymore, particularly since I have a ton of summer plans coming up. I'm kind of geeked out about this because I've never owned my own car before. My previous (and only) car was given to me by my mom (I just took over the payments) and after that I drove Art's cars. So this one is mine, all mine, and I feel like a grown-up. I took photos, but I'm too lazy to find my camera cord, so here is a stock photo. That's the same color and everything!

Office finale tomorrow! I am actually really excited which is more than I can say for pretty much anything else on tv. What a waste of 30 minutes HIMYM was this week and The Hills finale was so stupid it bordered on ridiculous. Wait, bordered?? Scratch that. That show needs more Brody.

Right now I'm reading Billion Dollar Kiss, a biography of a television writer, and I'm finding it fascinating. I really like the peek behind the scenes that the book offers, particularly since I've been a tv junkie for so long.

Oh - one last thing - is anyone else watching the Jeopardy! College Tournament?

himym-awesome instead
Okay, I hate letting sad LJ entries linger, especially when they are public so I feel compelled to post again. Unfortunately, I don't have much time so it will be a bullet point post.

I apologize greatly since I was so sad in the face yesterday and did not acknowledge the birthdays of two great ladies - [info]expatiates and [info]maka2000. Tracy, I am glad you are having a lot of fun right now, and I hope it continues. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Maka, I hope that you paint the town red when you are ready - you deserve it.

So....good news...hm...

**I bought a ticket to see Tilly and the Wall! The show is next month at a tiny tiny venue. I'm really excited about it, and I have [info]hellopoe to thank since it was her that got me listening. However, I'm going alone so someone else should get a ticket and come with me.

**Does anyone have a spinach and artichoke dip recipe handy? I get a fruit/veggie delivery every two weeks and this week it came with two artichokes. I don't want them to go to waste but I am at a loss for what to do with them.

**I have been The Office crazed ever since seeing the cast again at the SAG awards. I think I've almost convinced Heather to marathon the show with me this weekend. Lately though, I've been watching the UK version since -shocker- I've never seen it. I really like Gareth - he's HILARIOUS.

Okay, I am boring myself. I need to get back to work. Also - it smells like someone is frying bacon around here, investigation under way.

I refuse to stress, I refuse to stress!

This week has been a total challenge for me. Work has been disgusting, like standing in the bathroom stall telling yourself to stop weeping and pull yourself together already type of bad. Like, go home and run a mile or two to blow off steam type of bad. And now it's Christmas crunch time! [info]ww1614 posted her to-do list, and I know I'll forget something, so I'm going to do the same.

I will still forget something )
Light at the end of the tunnel: Jon Brion at Largo on Saturday night, and a movie date with Art on Christmas Eve (AFTER WORK, god! Why didn't I take vacation time?).

Good News: My friend B let me know she has a ticket for me to see Rufus Wainwright in March. Thank goodness because I totally forgot. I spaced on a ticket sale?? What is wrong with me? [info]superbonbon4 - it's in LA, Mar. 5th - do you want me to see if she can get any more??

For those on the edge of their seats over my career: I made the application deadline for promotion. I have to take an exam in January.

Back to the salt mines.

Hey you friends list! Last Chance for Holiday Cards! Mine are totally non-denominational so come one, come all! I am working on them right now since it is my lunch break.

Hello to my new LJ friends - I swear I usually post more often (that's what they all say) but this has been a particularly busy month. Case in point: while picking up my egg salad sandwich for lunch right now I just remembered that I need to turn in my application for a promotion - the deadline is tomorrow. I haven't even done a first draft! I'll be spending the rest of my day on that.

I ran the 5K yesterday, you guys! I also was able to see Jason Dohring for a little bit. I was on such a high yesterday afternoon it was insanity. More on both subjects later (probably much later) but I have to put this video up right now. He is way too much of everything. I should admit here that I am unable to be objective about him. The quality blows and that's photobucket's fault I swear.

It's Thanksgiving! Well in the U.S., anyway. I had two cups of coffee at dinner tonight and now I'm wired even though I should be getting to bed.

Out of my Thanksgiving to-do list I've managed to,

-dye my hair so that my mother will not scoff at my roots. I told Art tonight that I'm hoping she says, "Oh, your hair looks halfway decent today." He said, "That would be a big compliment from her!"
-hit the grocery store for ingredients for the praline sweet potato (ok, they are really yams) recipe Heather gave me. My local market was completely out of marshmallows though, so now I have to go running around in the morning looking for some. Oh, procrastination, you win again!
-cook the sweet potatoes yams
-wish [info]blahblahologist a Happy Birthday! See what I did there?

I was hoping to get a run in tomorrow (er, today) before we left for my cousin's house for dinner, but I have to track down marshmallows and a pumpkin pie and fix the dish before we leave at noon so I don't know if I'll get to it.

Okay, how about some things I am grateful for to celebrate the holiday:

01. my super duper awesome husband and our tough as nails marriage.
02. Ella! My little pup brings me so much joy. Even when she wakes us up at 5 a.m.
03. The oh-so wonderful ladies who make up Team Logan. I love you all too much!
04. Bit Torrent.
05. Daily e-mails with [info]superbonbon4 full of gossip and miscellany.
06. Sticks and balls! Or, needles and yarn.
07. John Edwards.
08. Outkast's B.O.B.. Nothing gets me going on a run better than that song.
09. The person who took this photo. Hell, EVERYONE involved in creating that photo. I love it.
10. And of course, my LJ friends. You are all made of greatness!

Commemorative Post!

I have a half a minute but I hate to let the day go by without saying something sooooo....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO C! I hope you and everyone have an amazing time tonight and I am so sorry I couldn't be there. I love you too much and you made the Moonlight party more fun just by being there. I mean, look!

She's amazing.

Also, today we are no longer newlyweds. Art and I have been married three years today! At this moment on that day I was probably getting my hair done and leaning heavily on [info]superbonbon4's shoulders since my nerves were getting the best of me. Best three years ever!

Oh, and a couple of weeks ago Art and I celebrated our tenth year of being a couple. That night I got all marshmallow and gushy and took photos of the limited amount of photos I had from when we first got together. Here's one, sorry for the blurriness. Art and I were both 19 at the time of this photo. Crazy.

Here's a warning - I have no idea what to post about and am only posting because I feel like I should. Also, because we are obviously not getting out of work early despite it being a holiday tomorrow. Boo! Plus, I've been on an adding spree (hello new people!) so I should put together some content, right?

So links?

[info]electrcspacegrl posted this article about couples who watch their Netflix-ed shows without the other person present. I thought it was hilarious. Art and I have one Netflix account but our ideas of entertainment are so different that we usually have to make SURE the other person won't be around so we can watch our movies. He is not keen on the Maggie Gyllenhaal film festival I've turned our queue into. Our big rule is that not all three movies can be all one person's choices. So we have Superman Returns that we theoretically both want to see but so far we haven't (we've had it for six weeks), Sherrybaby - that's mine, and I Heart Huckabees which is another one of our agreed upon movies. So damn, I just spent all my time disproving my own theory.

How's about that Harry Potter? [info]keever put together a handy AND dandy list of Potter related television for the next week here and [info]girlcontinuum is a genius who hilariously requests that there be no book spoilers anywhere near her.

(Speaking of, I just bought the Spoilt tee from Threadless because it made me laugh. Do I even need to say spoiler alert for that? A bunch of big [yet years old] movies/HP6 spoilers at that link).

[info]sweetcynic23 convinced me to go to the book release party at the Borders in Hollywood and in preparation, I am making myself a hat. I haven't gotten that far with it yet, but it is so fun to knit that I am sure I'll be done in no time. I'm worried that my green is too dark though. Here's my progress so far:

Tomorrow is the 4th of July and I am going to attempt to let my anger about the Libby sentence commutation be pushed into quiet rage by steak and potato salad at my Mom's. Also, one good thing about my hometown? Fireworks are legal!

Be safe and be sane tomorrow my fellow Americans!
le-logan wears the hell out of it
I feel like I haven't posted in a really long time (which isn't true at all), which leads to a giant hodge-podge post. Plus, my mother just called me and yapped my ear off for 17 minutes and 38 seconds while I was attempting to work. So...let's think about other things.

So! New White Stripes album! Yeah, yeah, I know it leaked a couple weeks ago but I didn't want Jack White to call me at my house and curse me out for talking about it early. I have it if anyone wants me to upload. Of course I haven't listened to the whole thing yet - that is probably on tap today if I can get a minute to think - but what I have heard is pretty amazing. The two played an 'in store' at the old Tower Records here on Sunset and I thought about going for about two minutes and then I saw this post on Laist.com. People were in line for a while. I don't do the camping out thing anymore. Did I ever? Can't remember. Pre-sale tickets for their show at the Forum (too big for me, I think) go on sale this morning. I'm debating, but Art says he's out.

* * *

I've been following this Jessie Davis case (Lacey Peterson redux - 9 months pregnant woman goes missing in Ohio) obsessively all week. How shady is this baby daddy? I am anxiously awaiting to see if the baby they found on a doorstep 45 miles away is actually Davis' baby. That's just too coincidental for me.

* * *

Shallow! Heather has been indulging me and sending me every ONTD post featuring Milo Ventimiglia because she loves me. So! Two Three of my fave photos and Heroes spoilers (yep, a show I barely even watch) under the cut!

Y So Hot, bb? )

I haven't watched anything but Hell's Kitchen and John From Cincinatti on tv this week so I promise I will come back to all your television posts probably this weekend. I'm going to see a preview of Evan Almighty tonight! Also - I need to hammer down my Harry Potter movie plans and buy tickets.

Work has been tough as nails this week. So, I need to get back to the old grind. Hope things are well with you all (or if not well, then at least looking up?)

Happy Memorial Day weekend to my fellow American friend's. We have lost nearly 3500 American lives in Iraq since 2003.

Checking my last.fm recently played list makes me feel kind of pervy:

It was on shuffle! I swear. I am not gross.

Happy Anniversary and Congratulations to [info]springsign and her husband and to my BFF [info]superbonbon4 and her husband.

This weekend we're staying pretty close to home, we're about to go have sushi and catch a screening of Waitress. Tomorrow, is a trip to the beach down in the O.C. with my extended family, and Monday we're off to the desert to hang out with [info]chellepear, [info]corporalbob and their adorable little boy.

What sorts of plans do you have? Be safe and have fun!

This lovely notice popped up in my g-mail today...

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! I have been waiting to see this movie forEVER and forever is over today. Or more likely, it'll be over this weekend. Spader and Gyllenhaal = a mighty win.

-My husband and his bestie met me for lunch today since this is the last day we will all be working in the same vicinity. Art starts his new job next week. Which is also a bonus because he'll go back to working downtown and I can co-opt his car again. We went for Pho and I am so happy because this place was good and isn't too far from my house.

-I had something else happy in this spot but I forgot now what it's supposed to be.
le-computer time!
Okay - so I joined up on Twitter. Feel free to add me.

We're watching Lucky Number Slevin AND yes, my Seattle pics are coming. ONE DAY.

Good things?

-Yay for the Colts, the pony I picked to win the Super Bowl. I'm not sure if I am happier for Peyton Manning or myself. I never pick the right team, but this makes two in a row. Now, I want the Chargers to start practicing yesterday.

-My Super Bowl party was pretty amazing even if low-attended. I served a low-cal menu of Mexican layer dip, chips and salsa and mini mushroom pizzas on wheat pita. I was really pleased at how my husband and his buddy enjoyed them. Yay! Less low-cal but still awesome? My devil's food cupcakes with homemade white frosting. [info]sweetcynic23 helped me make the frosting and now I don't think I'll ever buy the stuff in the tub again!

-Thanks to [info]thisis_whatido, I now know that David Garza has put out a live album. More info here. Also, L.A. folks, David is playing Largo on Feb. 9th. I won't be there except in spirit, so you should go.

-Fashion Week (Fall/Winter 2007/8) is going strong in NYC right now. [info]runwaym has great non-watermarked photos of tons of the shows if you want to stay on LJ but Style.com has the shows AND reviews. I am so behind on checking out the collections, but I will admit I was really impressed by the DKNY collection. My favorite so far is by a label called Ruffian, but admittedly, the heavy hitters started showing yesterday (I am just waiting for a spare second to see what Carolina Herrera has put out) so that will probably change. Ladies, I am warning you now that we might be fighting off a vicious attack by the fashion industry over jumpsuits. Yep, they are trying to bring them back with not so great results.

-VM people - I just started helping out over at [info]vm_meta and I am having the time of my life. If you're still watching and writing about the show, consider contributing! It's easy!

Last night, Art and I went to Largo for it's usual Monday night comedy night and were practically the entire audience. Oh, except for a guy they call Kyle Gass (aka, the guy in Tenacious D who isn't Jack Black). He sat in the back and if I were one of the young comics performing I would have been super nervous, because I would glance back every so often and he'd have this face of STONE. Eeesh. Comedy IS hard.

Good news! I will be hosting my 2nd annual Oscar party this year. I have started the planning and am looking forward to it so so much. Info to follow.

Yeah, yeah it's bad and a betrayal and it probably speaks volumes about his integrity and all that, but I would have found it tough to say no to Gavin Newsom, (link has video) he is smokin' hot. Certainly, I would have found reasons to stay at work as late as possible. The whole story of the S.F. mayor's affair is straight out of a primetime soap, though. I'm loving every detail. Morals have never been my favorite thing, you know.

Eagerly anticipating: My brand new Dior Show mascara that I just bought on Sephora.com, and tonight's The Office.

Tracking: flights and hotels to New York City. That's our vacation destination this year (we're going first week of May). Herald Square Macy's - get ready for me!

Chagrined: because in the poll, the majority of you were like Art and had never accidentally called a teacher, "Mom" or "Dad." I did it in the third grade to Mrs. McCauley and it was a classic "absent-minded Susan" moment where I just blurted out, "Mom, can you help me?" in regard to some stupid work we had to do. The teacher looked at me with that amused look and I turned bright red. The kids around who heard laughed. Art practically fell off the couch in a fit of laughter when I shared that story with him, saying he had never heard of anyone who had done that. At least I wasn't alone. And when I told Art about the amount of people who said the couldn't remember he said, "Who do you have friended? A bunch of stoners?"

OH - and of COURSE I cried at that perfect gentleman on American Idol last night. I'm not made of stone!

I haven’t done one of these in few weeks, so I’m a bit behind. So please indulge me in a longer round of: Things That Are Currently Rockin’ My World!!!

01. Altoids Apple Sours. Oh my these are so good. I got some of these over the weekend and they made me happier than any kind of candy in a tin should. Hell, they make me happier than most people do. Just the right amount of sour with sweet apple flavor.
02. Karaoke parties! There will be much more about this later, but [info]superbonbon4’s karaoke holiday party was the highlight of my entire weekend. I drank way too much, did my OWN version of “Last Christmas” with Kesha, and just generally acted like a fool. I can’t believe no one took the microphone out of my hands once I realized just how much I love to hear myself babble.
03. Amazon Prime. I got into my membership accidentally, but it is saving my Christmas. I am a chronically late holiday shopper and Amazon is getting me my gifts on time and had a nice discount on Art’s presents.
04. Drake Bell. I can’t even believe I am admitting this, but I saw Drake Bell on Conan O’Brien and he is adorable with adorably catchy songs! He plays the piano! And he’s totally not 15 years old even though if you looked at him you would consider that a generous guess.
05. Making things that are edible. I had no interest in cooking or baking when I was a little one but now that I realize I can’t eat out every night and still afford fancy shoes, I’ve been interested in eating at home. This weekend I got super domestic and made chocolate chip cookies! The Team Logan girls totally indulged me by eating the majority of them and not declaring them disgusting.
06. SOUP, THERE IT IS! I totally did not think Mr. JT could come close to the brilliance of Omeletteville but the Homelessville sketch had Will Forte, my true SNL love, and so it gets the win.
07. Top Chef recaps @TWOP. I had given up on Television Without Pity (and still don't read the forums) but Keckler's recaps of my newest favorite reality show are actually hilarious, get the details right AND are full of food-ly information and restaurant recommendations.
08. The U.S. mail! LJ FRIENDS! You all are the best! Getting home is even more of a joy than usual because I’ve been receiving super sweet cards every day. Thank you thank you to those of you who have made the effort, they are decorating the area above my tv. I love them so so much. Oh, and to those who also greeted Art, he says hello and thank you. Mine are coming, I swear.

I thought you'd never tell me

I'm still attempting this whole LJ thing. I'm also still trying to enjoy myself some tv, though it's often a few days late.

From last night's How I Met Your Mother (please god, never subject me to that much Ted again), a song. Grant Lee Phillips - Boys Don't Cry. A cover, natch.

I hope all is well with you. Normal commenting to resume...shortly.
