Hello, HELLO! I am in a great mood this morning, I fancied up for work (even wearing HEELS), took the time to get a vanilla latte from Starbucks before work, Jason's show was (probably) picked up for air on HBO, AND it's the last day of this godforsaken year!

I had a whole Christmas post, but I probably won't post it because I am lazy and everyone's probably tired of Christmas by now. But I had a very nice one, I got a tree (my first in five years!) and we went to see family and Art bought me exactly what I wanted, a Blackberry Storm and Heather (my Team Logan Secret Santa) bought me the other thing I wanted, Gossip Girl season 1 on DVD. And the Chargers made the playoffs which rules, but now they have to play [info]superbonbon4's boo Peyton Manning, which sucks (I LOVE the Manning's).

BUT! IT's the end of the year, and despite all the work literally PILED on my desk, I am doing this end of the year meme. Smell ya later, 2008, you sucked and ruled and sucked some more. GOOD RIDDANCE. Come on, 2009.

Happy New Year! Please be careful out there.

Life = work. work. work. work. runerrands/besocial/whatever. work. work. work. I miss all of you guys, but I am reading as often as I can. I am all over Twitter though, so if you're there and we're not following each other, add away!

Flickr meme anyone? I am bringing up the rear on this little trend I think. Story of my life?

Trying to get over a terrible headache, so why not procrasti-post a meme? Snagged from [info]whirlygirly

Who was your FIRST prom date? Nobody! I didn't go to my prom. The guy I wanted to go with asked some other girl, then I asked this one guy I worked with and he was like, "Heh, no."

Do you still talk to your FIRST love? Not in a long while, but we are MySpace buddies.

What was your FIRST alcoholic drink? Other than "tasting" my mom's wine at various special occasions? My friend Crystal and I split a peach wine cooler once in high school. SPLIT. A. WINE. COOLER. HAHAHAHAA, that sounds so stupid now. I was not really an *~experimenter~*

What was your FIRST job? I baby-sat a ton, but my first job that gave me a real check was at McDonald's.

What was your FIRST car? 2000 Toyota Corolla that my mom let me take over her payments on. I think most of you know that I didn't start driving til I was 22.

Who was the FIRST person to text you today? Art surprised me with an early morning text.

My new favorite website: PassiveAgressiveNotes.com. A week or so ago, I came across the site and lost a ton of time going through all the archives. People are so petty!

Now that American Idol is done for the year, it's time for the summer fun of So You Think You Can Dance. I was really excited for the show to come back and set my recording on my DVR for the show nearly two weeks ago. But, as this crappy (non-TiVo) DVR is wont to do, it "forgot." So I missed the first 25 minutes of the show and WAS SO MAD. Anyways...

Oh, and I did the handwriting meme that's been going around.

This showed up in my e-mail originally but I thought I could use it for LJ fodder. This is also me wasting time before I go to visit my mom.

Survey Says )

--You guys, I'm not going to lie, but I am actually NERVOUS about The Office finale on Thursday. What's going to happen?!
--I was horrified when I opened up the Sunday paper today to read the Twilight article (wait - that wasn't the horrifying part) and found a GIANT picture and article about Spencer and Heidi. That was so not on, LA Times. Proof of the horror!
--Possible unpopular opinion alert, but, I honestly would not care at all if Moonlight is not renewed this week. This past episode was so ridiculous, you guys. Jason (and Alex for that matter) deserve a lot more.

Crap - I need to get moving. I told my mom I'd be there in an hour or so.

Hey! I was tagged by [info]tlace! How about that?!

People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blogs and replace any question they dislike with a new question formulated by themselves. Tag 8 people. Those who are tagged cannot refuse. These 8 people must state who they were tagged by. You cannot tag the person who tagged you. Continue this game by sending this to 8 other people.

1. If your lover betrayed you, what would your reaction be?
I would be gutted. Literally tears, tears, vomit. That being said, for me, it's not an automatic deal breaker. Though, ultimately, my trust issues would probably get in the way.

Okay, I know that I haven't been here in a while but I am just here to drop off the End of Year Meme. More when I have time to think!

What Happened 2007??

1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before? I ran a 5K!
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I went back in my posts and didn't see any resolutions so I guess I didn't. I have plenty for this year though and I'll post those on the 2nd.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? One of my 2nd cousins had a baby in October. A little boy named Julian. Cute!
4. Did anyone close to you die? No.
5. What countries did you visit? None! But Art and I made our travel plans for 2008 and the answer to this question SHOULD change next year.
6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007? An external hard drive. Seriously - I am running so low on room!
7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? March 12th - Heather, Tam and I roadtripped to San Diego. Oct. 9th - the day we celebrated 3 years of marriage and 10 years of being a couple.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? That 5K!
9. What was your biggest failure? I missed all of my god daughter's soccer games. I am a jerk.

What are you all doing tonight? Art and I have invited a couple of people over for drinks and maybe a Scene It! tournament. I refuse to get too drunk so I am going to stick with just a steady stream of wine. I am making a baked brie that I'm pretty excited about. We don't usually go out anymore because the traffic in town gets pretty bad with the parade watchers. Lots of tourists out there right now. In fact, on my way in to work this morning, there were already people camped out on the street!

Tomorrow, I'm off work, so I am going to attempt some soul food. Fried fish and collared greens ("they're not called collard people") and mac 'n cheese. Heather is making a peach cobbler. Now, as long as Illinois beats USC in the Rose Bowl it should be a perfect day! Happy New Year! Please be careful if you are going out tonight.

Happy Birthday to [info]aubreycolors and [info]velocityofsound!!

Holiday Miscellany

me-oh so blue shoes
Okay, can't avoid it anymore, the holidays are here. A few co-workers and I are laughing about how far behind in shopping we are but seriously, I need to get the lead out. If only so the text messages from my greedy nieces and nephews will stop.

But LJ Holiday time comes first. I received my Christmas cards from [info]lepapillon and [info]afrocurl and it was such a day brightener! Thank you, ladies!

Here is my annual request for addresses to send out my own Holiday Cards to you, my LJ friends that I enjoy so much. Now, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, "Susan - I give you my address every year and you have yet to send me a card. You are probably off selling my information to companies in exchange for cheese." And while that is partly true (uhh, not the selling of info I SWEAR), I am going to make the effort this year. I AM. I also might actually send [info]lapses's LONG DELAYED birthday gift to her. Also, don't you guys just like the element of surprise? Maybe you'll get the card from me! Try it and see! Comments are screened because I am too lazy for a poll. You don't have to send one to me to request one, and if you don't want one, don't worry, I don't think any less of you. Also, I apologize to my Jewish friends because obviously, I am not going to make it before Hanukkah.

Last and least: It's Holiday Love Meme time! Here is my thread. I'm going through and commenting on everyone's I see later today. Or maybe I already did it...ooh - element of surprise AGAIN! If you don't have a thread for yourself, go start one!

Heather and I went to the Holiday gathering for our running group last night. Being in a room with people who regularly run 10+ miles in a stretch is humbling. This one woman was talking about how she did her first half-marathon when her son was ten months old. I was like, "uhhh is there more cobbler?"

Shoes can be quite dastardly!

So this morning, I was on my way to work and listening to Kevin & Bean, my favorite morning radio duo, and they were having an argument with Ralph, the entertainment guy about: LIP BALM ADDICTION. Ralph said he had recently become a lip balm addict and Kevin and Bean were like, "that's IMPOSSIBLE." They had on the (extremely bizarre) webmaster of Lip Balm Anonymous and then took callers who told of their own addictions. I got to work at that time, so I am planning to download the show so I can hear the rest of the segment, but I am admitting it right now. My name is Susan, and I'm a lip balm addict. I need to keep it near me at all times. I have a pot of Burt's Bees cherry flavored balm at my bedside, a stick of Avon lip balm in my bathroom drawer, a honey flavored balm by The Savannah Bee Co., and of course, Smith's Rosebud Salve in my desk drawer at work. It's ridiculous, I KNOW, but I can't stop and if I am somewhere without it, I start feeling a little uncomfortable, knowing that my lips will be feeling like cardboard until I get near my balm again. Someone please confirm to me that I am not alone!

In other news, [info]aprilbegins bestowed the letter L upon me in the Favorite Things meme, and I wanted something to post, so here it is! I'll give you one guess as to what #1 is. If you would like a letter, let me know!

It is HOT AS BLAZES in my office today despite it being relatively cool outside. HATE!

I am a procrastinator and approximately a billion years ago, I requested interview meme questions from both [info]bijal and [info]athenacqd and yet never ever produced answers. This is why memes are not a good idea for me. BUT! I have lots of new friends on my friends list and tons of guilt over never answering these questions, soooooooo, here we go. They are both done, a two for one deal!

I guess we are supposed to keep this open so if you want your own five questions, feel free to ask me for some, but keep these things in mind: I absolutely will procrastinate on those AND they will not be as great as these questions unless I just steal them.

From [info]bijal:

01. If you were to write one today, what would you entitle your autobiography?

From [info]athenacqd

01. There are several special moments in every girl's life. Her prom, her wedding, her child's graduation. Leaving aside the fact you've already experienced some of these, which of the following would you choose to design your prom dress, wedding gown, proud parent of the graduate dress, your funeral clothes? Jay McCarroll, Santino Rice, Wendy Pepper, Chloe Dao, and Kara Saun. Remember: the one that remains gets to select the outfits you wear on all the other days.

Thank [info]nm973 for the following:

10 Things I Love, Courtesy of the Letter 'M'.

01. Mexican food. Maybe I'm biased considering I grew up eating it, but there is nothing better than tacos, beans and rice. Also: excellent hangover food.
02. M.A.C. I love make-up so much and MAC has the best colors.
03. Macabre. I love the word, the way it sounds and what it means! Dark!
04. Maps. Karen O masters the vocal here: it's full of longing with the right touch of obsession.
05. My mother. She's crazy and has the innate ability to drive me nuts and crack me up at the same time. Similar to all mothers?
06. Mini-buttons. I just got some new ones from C and I love them. She made me one of Fiona Apple - wearable art!
07. Macaroni and cheese. In any form: Kraft dinner, homemade, restaurant - all awesome.
08. Mail, electronic. E-mail is best. Send me some!
09. Mocha coffee drinks, soy. Starbucks Peppermint mocha makes my entire holiday season.
10. Magazines. Books? What? I am a magazine junkie. We get six magazines delivered to the house and I STILL buy others at the newsstand when I need a fix.

Want a letter? Ask for one!

So, [info]apestaartje gave me the letter "H" for the music meme about 100 years ago and I forgot. Until I saw everyone and their mother posting today. Call me a follower, but here are my songs! And sorry for the delay.

It was WAY hard just picking five songs but you will notice that UNLIKE [info]lapses, I did not openly flout this rule.

H is for Happenstance

Holiday - Weezer - chosen because Weezer is one of my all-time favorite bands.
Hello Operator - The White Stripes - chosen because I love the way the guitar sounds. I less than three Jack White.
Heartbeat - Tahiti 80 - chosen because I have a nice memory attached to this song.
Home - Alexi Murdoch - chosen because I just recently started listening to Alexi Murdoch and I love it!
Harajuku Girls - Gwen Stefani - chosen because it's totally embarrassing. And embarrassed I SO am. This has to be one of the worst songs ever.

If you want a letter to do this yourself - please comment!

EDIT: I just remembered something I wanted to ask you The Hills watchers. I just got around to watching the finale yesterday but my tivo cut off the last few minutes. That stupid girl chose Jason instead of Paris, didn't she? DIDN'T SHE?! I hate them all.

[info]oscar4ivy tagged me in the "Name 7 songs you are Currently Rockin'" Meme and so I figured I would just respond with the disc I've been listening to all week. So it's more like here are 18 Songs I am Currently Rockin'. I put it together this past Monday night when I was feeling particularly hermit-y and emo (just garden variety emo, nothing to worry about). And nothing helps me brood like some piano so there is plenty of piano on this mix. If there are songs I should be embarrassed about, (*ahem* The Fray) rest assured I am embarrassed. If I had any type of Photoshop/MS Paint skills at all you would see neat little cd artwork graphic here, but alas, I am deficient. Feel free to download the zip if you like what you see. I don't mind uploading single tracks but you may have to wait a bit for them since I'll be kind of busy tonight and tomorrow I'm leaving for the weekend.

Under the cut - the download link and track listing!

And before you ask, yes it IS impossible for me to make a mix without Fiona Apple.

While [info]nm973 hates memes, I LOVE them. Well, at least the ones where I get to talk about myself because I am that self-absorbed. Yay! She tagged me for the "Weird Habits Meme" and I'm totally into it because 1) I am extremely weird and 2) Everyone at work called in leaving me and one other secretary in the lurch so I'm rebelling. Feel free to judge me if you must, because you will also learn just how high maintenance I am.

Once you are tagged you must write an entry about six weird habits/things (about yourself). In the end, you need to choose the next six people to be tagged and list their names.

That's SO WEIRD, Susie! )

To continue the my rebellious day, I'm tagging no one! HAHA. But if you want to do this, consider yourself tagged.

Current Favourites!

I inwardly bitched about never being tagged for the "6 Current Favourite Songs" meme and then when I finally WAS tagged, twice, I never did it! I'm like the worst [insert adjective here], ever.

So here we go, thanks be to [info]ariel_rose and [info]definitelylove!

01. "Cannonball" - Damien Rice, from the album O. Starting off the theme of old songs I'm just now discovering is this one from the singer I used to dislike. I spent most of Friday afternoon at work surfing the internet and listening to this song on repeat. It's oddly comforting.

02. "A Better Son/Daughter" - Rilo Kiley, from the album The Execution of All Things. Angsty goodness!

03. "They" - Jem, from the album Finally Woken. I listened to this cd on Rhapsody so much a long time ago and then just stopped. I actually purchased a copy on a shopping trip with [info]chellepear a month ago and and I just wanted to listen to this song. I love the intro. It sounds ominous.

04.(tie) "Cigaro"/"Violent Pornography" - System of a Down, from the album Mezmerize. I'm cheating here and adding in another song because I can't decide between them. Bruising songs, dirty lyrics. I'm in!

05. "Hysteria" - Muse, from the album Absolution. Because I'm still not sick of this band at all and I blame this song.

06. "Used to Love" - Fiona Apple, from the unreleased album, Extraordinary Machine. Mistakes made in relationships always lead to my favourite kinds of songs and the kicky drum beat here just adds to my fun. Plus, the second I heard this song for the first time I felt like all my theories about a hookup with Jon Brion were confirmed. The lyric is a little too obvious to be believed(with references to "friday night") but it's the musical furor that JB plays with on the track that puts me over the top. Jumping to conclusions rules.

I am tagging no one on this one - unless you want to do it, then by all means, consider yourself tagged!

2k4 Wrapup

  • Dec. 24th, 2004 at 4:27 AM
fiona - extraordinary
Last year I did this on December 31st but I'm at work and trying to avoid doing any actual work so here ya go.

1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
This will show up a lot in this survey: I got married. I never thought I was the marrying type, but the man proved me wrong.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I am sucktastic at New Years resolutions. Seriously. Which means I prolly won't make any more for next year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yep. My friend C had her son in January and my niece (yes, NIECE) had her son in October.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
I wouldn't say close but it was a rough year at Fuzz Central. We lost our beloved Sergeant of detectives in May and our longtime telephone operator earlier this month.

5. What countries did you visit?
NONE!!! Not even Canada, which I have been trying to get to for a couple years now. Maybe 2005 will finally be the year I hit Vancouver. Or Toronto. Or Montreal. Or hell, maybe K and I will go to Paris!

6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
good grades and some new clothes

7. What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Saturday October 9th! We had a big party and said a few important vows. I wore an amazing dress.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Deciding to go back to school in 2005 was an achievement. Also, I took on a new job at Fuzz Central and I'm kicking ASS at it.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Poor budgeting.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Yes. I had some lady problems in May that the doctors were hesitant to diagnose. The whole thing turned out to be nothing, but the "C word" was thrown out at one point. I don't think I've ever been so scared in my life. I became severely anemic and was on a lot of supplements/meds. Good times. Oh wait, no, no they weren't.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My wedding! Also? a wine bottle opener. That sucker is worth every penny!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Art's for actually going through with the whole ring exchange,
K's for listening to me cry and/or complain five million times,
Chelle's for being such a great sounding board and a person I can always be completely honest with

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
When you C see it, you'll know.

14. Where did most of your money go?
American Express. M-F'rs! (hey! this answer is the same as last years!)

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I WAS really really really excited about the election. Til it actually happened. Also, I got REALLY excitable at the most mundane things, like flowers, tablecloths and appetizers.

16. What song will always remind you of 2004?
"Toxic" by Britney Spears (I can't help it, I just LOVE it)
"With a taste of your lips
I'm on a ride
You're toxic
I'm slipping under
With a taste of poison paradise
I'm addicted to you
Don't you know that you're toxic?"

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i.happier or sadder? Happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? I lost 20 lbs this year but I might have found some of them again now that the holidays are here.
iii. richer or poorer? I've certainly made American Express richer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
O M G. I went to NO concerts this year. That MUST be rectified. I also didn't focus as much on music as I should have (I'm really behind now), and I wish I'd started volunteering this year but once again I put it off.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
worrying over stupid shit, catering to what others wanted, and complaining.

20. How will you be spending the Winter?
irritating deputies, getting my credit straightened out, changing my name, oh! and returning to college.

21. How will you be spending Christmas?
With my family, counting the minutes til we can go back home and do our own thing.

22. Did you fall in love in 2004?
oh yes I did.

23. How many one-night stands?
My one night stand days are over! And I never had ONE one night stand! Silly girl, tricks are for turning!

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Well, my go to shows were severely lacking: Alias and Gilmore Girls had disappointing seasons, (although GG is rebounding nicely) so I'm going with my new favourite girl. Veronica Mars rocks my socks. Runners up? America's Next Top Model, Project Runway, and Arrested Development.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I hate Donald Trump for this last season of The Apprentice - Total BS and I'm starting to hate (gasp! NO!) Seth Cohen. *cries*

26. What was the best book you read?
I haven't read a damn thing. Stupid me. Well, I think I read one actual book and I didn't like it at all. I currently have two novels waiting to be read and I haven't picked up either in a very long time.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?/new artist for 2004?
Oh jeeeeez. I really have no idea. Probably Muse. A band I wanted to hate really bad but I listened to their album and fell in love.

28. What did you want and get?
a big wedding

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
Hands down, no contest: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
26!!! So much anxiety! I did so much shopping (first for cd's w/Art, then fancy shopping w/K) and had some yum dinners.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
stability

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
If it's old, wear it. I'm rocking my vintage (circa 2001 - hee) Old Navy tees and smaller jeans. I bought almost NO new clothes this year. No wonder I'm trying to learn to make my own stuff.

33. What kept you sane?
No one has ever accused me of sanity.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Adam Brody! *swooooooon* Also, my love for the Affleck is back. It can't be contained. And Bobby Cannavale. Woot!

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Nothing and I mean NOTHING outraged me more than the 11 states that voted down gay marriage. Don't you talk to me about "morals." Live and let live. I'm currently waiting for 11 states to go back and outlaw my marriage too.

36. Who did you miss?
Everyone that used to hit Rufus tour and [info]chellepear

37. Who was the best new person you met?
I'm gonna say Sean. And yes, that's a private joke.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004:
Be careful what you wish for...you may just get it.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"Fly on my sweet angel, forever I will be by your side" - Jimi Hendrix, "Angel" (aka, our wedding song)
