It's Friday and I haven't posted in a while

My new favorite website: PassiveAgressiveNotes.com. A week or so ago, I came across the site and lost a ton of time going through all the archives. People are so petty!

Now that American Idol is done for the year, it's time for the summer fun of So You Think You Can Dance. I was really excited for the show to come back and set my recording on my DVR for the show nearly two weeks ago. But, as this crappy (non-TiVo) DVR is wont to do, it "forgot." So I missed the first 25 minutes of the show and WAS SO MAD. Anyways...

Oh, and I did the handwriting meme that's been going around.

fiona-this is unbelievable
Real life is not so fun right now, so how about some distractions?

The new Martha Wainwright album leaked a couple of weeks ago and I think it's a winner. Of course I'm biased because I have a big girlcrush on her. She's playing the Troubadour in June and I am so there even though I made a resolution to only see live shows for artists I've never seen before. Screw that, it's Martha time!

Couple of tracks to preview: You Cheated Me and an oldie but goodie (plus new studio version) Jimi.

Did some retail therapy this weekend at Target (natch).

Didn't watch Moonlight til today because honestly that show bores me. But, it ended up cheering me up so much that I'm glad I watched it. Here's a few caps from my favorite scene.

Weekend's over. I'm going to bed because tomorrow is sure to be another day.

30 Rock was great. But I felt like the best stuff was previewed and/or mentioned in reviews. Slow down, NBC.

[info]sweetcynic23 thinks I have a problem with The Office. As in I require an intervention.

This week on...The Office )

TV! TV! It was a lot of fun to sit down and watch some new stuff last night. I didn't have time for Journeyman so that might be on tap for tonight. I was really intrigued by the reviews.

[info]sweetcynic23 and I were on the phone and she said, "You're going to think I am lame but, I want to go to the Kwik-E-Mart." I think she got to the "Kwik" part and I was knocking at her door. LET'S GO!!

Krusty O's, Pink Doughnuts and Buzz Cola, OH MY! )

Full gallery here. It was a total blast and I am really glad we went. It was fun to see a bunch of different people all excited about the same things. There were families, cholos with their girls, teen-agers, hipsters, and nerds like us. Yay Simpsons!

Happy Birthday to my Skins pusher, [info]truemyth! Wow, lovely!

Just a sidenote, a couple of weeks ago, I happened upon a thread in [info]indie_exchange about Skins (random, I know) and a commenter said that the previews for the show made them think they had wasted their youth being good and they now want to rewind ten years, party, drink, have tons of sex and drug it up. I say - exactly. Being a good teen-ager or even a healthy adult is overrated.

Okay - my tivo got all backed up while I was watching everything going on in Bristol so here's a rundown on what I finally caught up on.

Entourage )

John from Cincinatti )

Hell's Kitchen )

I also watched Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List but I don't think it's that much of a discussion show so whatever. I'm enjoying this season a lot so far. I was also VERY PLEASED to program my yearly summer tryst with Big Brother into my Tivo last night. It starts next week and spoilers are already flying. I'm looking forward to it! I'm also ordering Showtime this week so I can pick up the Big Brother After Dark stuff. Whatever, I'm beyond shame you guys.

I am so dragging today. I guess I should try that whole sleep thing everyone is always on about.

Weekend was great - okay, wait, I am just going to get the main reason for this post out of the way because I'm bubbling over. I finished off Skins this weekend and I'm completely obsessed. Ridiculously so. I'm wishing now that I had just watched one episode a week so I could still be enjoying the show now. But I did spend a lot of time yesterday converting my .avi's to .m4a's so that I can put the show on my ipod and leave it there. And I do still have the extras to get through. The show feels like it runs on pure adrenaline and watching it can feel like going through the ringer at times, but I truly enjoyed the ride. I recommend! Thanks muchly to everyone on my friends list who talked it up.

So, weekend was great between getting a good start on a project, finishing Skins, and attempting to beat Heather at the iLike music Challenge (it's looking bleak at the moment). Tam was in town, so she, Connie and Heather came by my house yesterday to hang out a while and we had a lot of fun talking and trying to decide on dinner. Plus, Heather made the most divine brownies. I just remembered I should have hidden those from my brother-in-law.

I thought I had more to talk about, but turns out that's not true. OH! Holla to my Hennes & Mauritz fans on the list - this is probably old news but the next designer to do a fast fashion line for H&M will be Roberto Cavalli. I am already predicting it will be awesome.

For those of you who like reminders (I am one of them!) the 12th of June is on Tuesday, and that means another opportunity to do the 12 of 12! Can you tell I really enjoy doing this every month? The bonus word this month is "secret." Ooh la la.

I am SO lazy this morning (what else is new, right?) but I have stuff to do and I'm not in mood at all. I still have some funds on a Starbucks card, maybe the promise of an iced mocha can propel me into the shower and then out on my errand run. I AM excited about my evening plans though - an improv show with [info]aprilbegins starring Angela Kinsey, Melora Hardin and Oscar Nunez. Yay summertime Office fix!

Thanks to everyone for the sweet comments on my post about Ella's attack. I appreciated every one of them. She's had it a little rough this week with being timid and scared (the day after the attack she just laid around with the saddest look on her face and barely ate) but she is feeling better every day.

I spent every night this week at home watching TV and hanging with Ella so here's a non-spoilery chat on what I saw: Hell's Kitchen: interesting but I don't know if I'll stick with it once Top Chef returns because the "cook-off" between season one and two reminded me how much I missed it. Hidden Palms is ridiculous trash but it's trash that was more watchable in the second episode. Real World Vegas Reunited was back to being stupid and boring as opposed to the promise of stupid and kind of interesting last week so now I'm mad about that. So You Think You Can Dance: cute boys!

All right - day avoidance is over - I'm going to add the new advances I downloaded (Kelly Clarkson, The White Stripes and Ryan Adams) to the ipod and get moving.

A couple of notes about television this week and then my overwhelmingly positive thoughts on The Office:

music-date with the night
It must be 'that time of the month' for my iPod - this morning it played these songs right in a row (I keep it on random constantly):

I Know - Fiona Apple
Eliot - Sarah Slean
This Woman's Work - Kate Bush (this song always reminds me of Syd Bristow)
Throwing Stones - Paula Cole
Laughing City - Eisley
I'm Not in Love - Tori Amos

And here I thought my music was too focused on male artists. Get a hold of yourself, iPod! I think this is what I get for naming it Logan - it's all sensitive.

Had a great dinner with [info]superbonbon4 last night. We told travel horror stories, talked about what kind of jewelry we like (and DON'T like), gossiped, and then had dessert. We may be on our way to actually becoming The Golden Girls.

I got an email today from Daily Candy advertising a Brady Bunch themed brunch. HOW FUN DOES THAT SOUND??

I'm sitting here at work, enjoying my green tea and a piece of the german chocolate brownie cake I got last night when duh, I realized it's a big day!

Happy Birthday, [info]buffyx!

Welcome to the 20's - a fantastic decade to be in, if I do say so myself. I hope you have a fun day that doesn't involve freezing any portions of your body off out in the tundra. Go watch The Departed, you know you want to!

And I did end up watching shows last night,

I would like to mention that T-Mobile has a commercial that I actually watch every single time it comes on. It's the one with the girl named Susan ("that's me!") getting the singing telegram from her boyfriend - "and he wants to break up today, he wants to break up today!" I never let my tivo skim past it.

My Valentinr - sinca
Last Chance! I am so excited about tomorrow - even though we decided on a no gift day. I think it's going to be a japanese take-out and Eternal Sunshine on the couch kind of evening.

As [info]superbonbon4 well knows, this is a post I've been meaning to make for a really long time but keep skipping out on because I'm super duper lazy. The Los Angeles Times kind of came to my rescue though, since I can just link to this: The Hot Button of a Casual Embrace. The article talks about the television trend of interracial relationships and how the shows do not acknowledge the couples are interracial. None of the characters ever talk about it, no one ever has any issues, no nothing.

I am by no means trying to talk for every interracial couple out there or even every Latina/Black couple out there but I have to say that for me, that kind of attitude by showrunners REALLY bothers me. It was honestly enough of an issue with me that it was part of the reason I had to stop watching Grey's Anatomy. Heroes is new enough that they can sort of have a pass - FOR NOW - and well, on Lost we know basically nothing about Bernard/Rose anyway. Truly, I do like seeing couples that look like me and my husband (well, color wise anyway, no one wants to see us actually ON television) but hell, I would love to live these people's lives! No one ever stares! No one ever makes comments! No one ever is "casually" racist in front of them! Hell, not even their FAMILIES have issues! What a life! I am so jealous!

I don't look for television to show me real life situations, but I don't like that they are seeking credit for being so diverse, then shying away from what happens with real interracial couples. That is doing the audience a disservice. From the article:

"These shows operate as if we live in a colorblind society, where everyone is equal and there are no problems," said Jannette Dates, dean of the John H. Johnson School of Communications at Howard University. "They don't even allow the nuances of the reality of interracial couples to come through. I don't know of any interracial couple that doesn't have to work at it. Society forces them to deal with their situation."

Precisely. We do not live in a society that is colorblind. The truest depiction of interracial romance that I've ever seen on television should not come from MTV's Engaged and Underage.

More Coachella. DUDE. DUUUUUUUUUDE. Rufus Wainwright is playing. There's no way I won't go now. I haven't seen him since 2005? That can't be right, can it? It will be right before his new material is released! Not to mention there will be sets from The Decemberists, Damien Rice, Arcade Fire, Interpol, Regina Spektor, Andrew Bird and pretty much anyone who has ever put out an album ever. NOT Billy Corgan and his bastardized version of The Smashing Pumpkins, though. Which is good because I was afraid that rumor would be true. That project needs to not see the light of day. I might have to sleep in my car on the side of the road but this just has to happen.

****

In other news, daytime television hates me. For example, I don't want to see Gastric Bypass commercials while I'm trying to enjoy some Taco Bell. It's bad enough that the women in the break room make me watch All My Children every single day (i hate everyone on that show except for Jack, btw) but I don't need to know about gastric perforation or whatever the side effects are. EW.

****

WHAT IS UP, PHOENIX SUNS?? Have I mentioned before how much I love Steve Nash. MVP! MVP! As for my other Arizona basketball team, we won't talk about that. I hope they can hold on to stay in the Top 25. In other sports news, I am going to root for the Colts in the Super Bowl. Unless you can persuade me not to. But I kind of love Peyton Manning and his stupid commercials where he wears a mustache.

I'm in the market for new LJ friends....recommendations? Friending memes?

I'm feeling a bit needy because I've had my nose to the grindstone at work and when I get home my nose is stuck in my textbooks or other projects. So, I'm posting in hopes that people will comment and say hello. Also - it's time to post my TV schedule for the fall season. It's another ambitious attempt, but this year, I am armed with my dual tuner Tivo. I am not sure how I lived without it. Thanks to [info]keever for the reminder to post, and to Laurel at TV Picks for the awesome grid.

Shows that have been dropped (by me) or cancelled (by the network) from last year: Arrested Development (sob!), Kitchen Confidential (waah!), Medium (zzz), Prison Break (can't get into it), Everwood (can't talk; still not over it), Alias (I didn't even bother to watch the finale), The Unit (I love you Scott Foley, but not enough, I guess) and Love Monkey (I still think it wasn't given a fair shake).

Monday:
8pm: Wife Swap (ABC)/The Class/How I Met Your Mother (CBS)
9pm: Heroes (NBC)/Runaway (The CW)
10pm: Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (NBC)
