Art's asleep and I've been hanging out at the computer. Gatsby is sleeping too, but that's usual for him. We decided to declare our own independence from responsibilities today. I'm enjoying the fact that I'm not at work (first time in a few years) a little too much.
My family has a big get together in fancy Mission Viejo every year but I am still not attending family functions. Not for any huge reason other than I'm totally sick of them. We're still not sure what Art's parents are up to. So no family stuff today! I like that kind of independence.
Our city has a huge Stars Hollow-esque festival going on, and we were going to hit the parade but then got really lazy and decided not to. It's not too late to go so maybe later on we'll venture out and see what the town has cooked up. For the most liberal city in the 909, I'm kind of curious to see what goes on out there! Until Art wakes though, I might go immerse myself in old Gilmore Girls.
I ended up cooking a big meal for our lunch, it was actually really fun. I made my famous (at least in this house) taco bake, spanish rice, and a pasta salad. For dessert (when we get to it) there will be stars and stripes cupcakes. We've been eating all day long and enjoying the silence.
Lazy, full of food, a/c cranking kind of a day. This is a summer I can get behind.

Our balcony in our apartment was finally replaced this month. Unfortunately to do that, the workers had to move our satellite dish. It knocked our service out for close to two weeks. I've NEVER been without my tv for so long. I hated every minute of it! And of course by the time we got our tv back almost all my shows were on hiatus. (That's what I get for being a WB devotee) But it made things a little easier on me. When my service was back on track, I went through my Tivo lists and if I didn't feel like I "missed" a show, the season pass was deleted. I am realising that I tend to watch shows for the sake of watching them now, and well, just no. I watch way too much tv to waste those precious hours on things I'm not wild about.
So here's what I got rid of. And just know that despite this, I still have so many season passes on my TiVo that I am too embarrassed to let anyone know the actual number.
-The Apprentice. - Yeaah. It became obvious Kelly was going to win very early in the season. Art and I kept watching only because we liked Andy, and we were mercifully spared his firing during our tv hiatus. We watched the BS fest of last weeks episode and that just about does it for me. I don't think I'll devote my time to the finale (three hours! no way!) and I have already decided that it's curtains for next season. I'll miss you, Carolyn!
-Desperate Housewives. I tried! But, no. I might lose Kesha as a friend, but I kind of hate this show.
-Boston Legal. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
Now for the good stuff. I watched the first two episodes of Project Runway on Bravo this weekend and YAY! It's awesome. This might be my favourite reality show of all time. Although judge Nina Garcia, the editor from Elle is the type that makes me want to smack her repeatedly. She's so RUDE about their designs! And it's like she never "gets" what the designers are trying to do, or even appreciate their vision. And yeah, I think I'm siding a bit too much with these people. I also think it's brilliant to have two competitions in one show, the main one with the designers and the other side one with the models. My favourite designers so far are the Miami girl (her nylon dress in the first ep was h-o-t) and the indie, punk rock girl. Heidi totally gives Tyra a run for her money with her just telling booted contestants, "You're out" and then just staring at them until they finally leave. Great. Then when they finally do their sad shuffle off the stage she chirps, "Auf Wiedersehen!" Ahh, excellent.
