Oscar Nominations!
I am bitter about the following snubs: James McAvoy for Atonement, I think without his performance, the film wouldn't have worked as well as it did for me and Into the Wild for Best Picture.
Other than that, not too shabby, I guess. I don't know why I am so surprised by the amount of attention Michael Clayton recieved. I did really enjoy it, but I didn't think too many voters would still remember it. Thus is the star power of George Clooney.
I'm not rooting strongly for anything just yet. Mostly, I'm "enh." No Oscar party this year.

Friday night, Heather and I were e-whining. We weren't sure if we should bother with the whole getting up early and driving up to Santa Monica for the Independent Spirit Awards. What if there are tons of people? What if we can't see anything? Blah blah blah. Finally Heather said that we might as well go for it because it will be one of those things where we will be glad we went. She was so right. The drive up to Santa Monica was nice and traffic-free, the weather was beautiful and the company was great. Plus, celebs! What was not great? My inherent laziness which caused me to not charge my camera battery before we left. Result? My camera died before the big stars showed up, so I was stuck using the low-quality, sometime-y camera on my cellular. LAME. I won't make that mistake again.

Whoops! Forgot to mention: If anyone wants the Netflix t-shirt (girly fit, size S/M) or the free 3 month subscription, just holla. I already have Netflix so I'm not eligible.

I figured you all could not live if I didn't post about Globes fashion. I do this for you, because I have no interest in fashion. RIGHT? Albeit a few days late and with no photos because I am the laziest.
You guys, listen, for reals. I know it's been bashed all over the internet from here to Clearwater, but I really and truly liked Cameron Diaz's dress. And if you know me, you know it hurts a little in the heart to praise her for anything. I could have sworn it was haute couture, but have since learned it was just little old Valentino, which is why the fit was right and when she walked, that dress just...wow. I am going to go all out and say it was the only white dress I liked. All the others put me to sleep (Kyra Sedgwick excepted!). I really have to commend her for taking a risk. I knew she and Justin should have broken up ages ago, it was good for everyone! All your hate should be firmly on Rinko Kikuchi. I guess you could say she went...BALLS OUT!
My favorite of the night was Ms. Jennifer Lopez. It's Marchesa and it's gorgeous and she wears it so well. The girl always comes camera ready and I respect that. And while Jen Garner may have won the Ben Affleck AND the baby that J.Lo wanted so badly, I have to say that it's obvious Jen Garner doesn't have a nanny. Haggard!
Hottest mommy is none other than Angelina Jolie. You guys, she wore ST. JOHN to an awards show. I mean, I just cannot love her more. Also, she looked so bored the whole time. THANK YOU. That show was boring. Start to finish.
Battle of the ingenues - America Ferrera vs. Jennifer Hudson. No contest, right? America looked amazing and her dress was so close to what I described in my "if I were going to the Golden Globes my dress would look like this" game I played in my head. Also, I love it when young starlets wear young but talented designers. Brian Reyes hasn't had many collections but he trained at Oscar De La Renta so expect big things. I saw what Jennifer Hudson was going for and I would have liked it better if she had glammed it up more. The Globes is not a funeral procession.
Obligatory Jenna Fischer/John Krasinski photo since the cast was woefully snubbed and they never even showed them on tv during the awards.
Yeah, I'm bored now. The fashion was SO BORING. I hope everyone is just putting it into reserves for the big show, the Oscars.

I will never ever watch the Oscars without TiVo again. This was the first year I've been able to utilise it for this purpose and I am in love.
-Chris Rock = the man (the bits at the Magic Johnson theatre was awesome)
-I'm sorry but I fast forwarded through all of Beyonce's songs except for that French one because I was watching it in utter disbelief while talking to K on the phone. The voice is good, the song interpretation skill, not so good
-Jamie Foxx - 1992 called and they would like their suit back
-Hilary Swank - that dress was so ugly that I am sure that when I get to Hell, it will be the only available thing to wear. Just say no, honey.
Much much more on the show tomorrow. xo

YAY! Kate Winslet was nominated for an Oscar for Eternal Sunshine. Definitely my favourite movie last year, and I'm so happy to see it recognised. It's also up for Best Original Screenplay. I'll be rooting for her on the big night.
Colour me surprised at the 7 nominations for Finding Neverland, the trailer always looked so silly to me but maybe I'll check it out soon.
ETA: I forgot to mention earlier that I'm a little irritated by the Natalie Portman nod, she was NOT the ingenue everyone said she was in Closer, and I'm not just saying that because I love me some Julia. Clive Owen basically owned that movie anyway. I know after the Globes it was inevitable but it bugs. It's not an Oscar-worth performance.
The Oscars will be on February 27th on ABC. All the noms are here. I watch for the fashion, stay for the weird ass speeches.
Also for my Project Runway peeps, looks like "Morganza" is stealing all the press. I called that a while ago that Morgan would probably be the most famous out of all the people on the show but unfortunately I called it out in my living room. Alone. BTW, I'm still in love with Jay.

Late of course, but better than never, for me anyway.
I didn't get a chance to watch the Screen Actors Guild Awards because work gets in the way, (and, honestly, with all the LOTR hype, I'm just not that interested) but I do like to see (and critique) the women's fashion. Especially right now that the stars are previewing the designer's Spring lines. I'm still waiting for Zac Posen to truly blow up on the red carpet.
I found a lot of the clothing to be really really REALLY snoozeworthy out there this time. The SAG's tend to get the short end of the stick considering how close they are to the Oscars (Fashion's Main Event) but sometimes we get lucky. Unfortunately, that's not the case this time. No showstoppers!
Spring events that aren't the Oscars usually bring with them a lot of colour out on the carpet, and the SAG Awards didn't disappoint in that arena, but who knew it would all be the SAME colour? Quelle horror! Re: Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis, I can't figure out if they planned it or if a publicist needs to be fired.
Bad Stuff is More Fun
Speaking of someone needing to be fired, whoever greenlit this dress for Rachel Griffiths really should be filling out the unemployment paperwork.
Charlize, when you pick up the Oscar on Sunday, I hope that the tan has faded. She's the same colour as the background! Hollywood's obsession with tanning is out of control. Step away from the Mystic Tan booth, ladies (and gents).
Three Cheers
I refuse to admit that I watch the show, but I love seeing Joan of Arcadia's Amber Tamblyn on the carpet at these events. She's really pretty and chooses gowns that just enhance what she's got without showing everything. Except - are those panty lines?!
Maria Bello was the only one who understood how to rock the print that night. So pretty.
My favourite look of the night on my my favourite bitchy actress. The divine CZJ looks like a goddess.
And you know this whole thing was just an excuse to show off Jennifer Garner, once again sans Michael Vartan. This red gown shows off just how hard this girl works at the gym. Unfortunately, she's been working too hard to do anything with her hair.
