I'm driving 95 and I'm driving you away

mov-i think i've got something to say
It's Monday, I'm sitting all by myself in my office area so it's time for...

Things That are Currently Rocking My World!

01. So, most of you "met" me post-wedding, but I am a total geek for all things weddings. So picture me totally over the moon when I found out that Issac Mizrahi (whom I totally wish I could hag over hang with) did a line of bridal gowns for Target. None of what I see is particularly my style (though I do love this one), but the prices are fantastic, a lot are two piece ensembles, and sizing goes up to 18. There's even a wedding SUIT! I asked Art if he was interested in renewing our vows so I could wear Isaac and he is still not over how much we spent on our original wedding, so he backed away slowly.

02. Jacques Pepin: Fast Food My Way on PBS. I'm starting to get into cooking shows lately and [info]superbonbon4 got me watching Jacques and he charmed me so much he's got his own season pass now. I just LOVE his quick meals and frenchified tales from his past. I could listen to his accent forever. Plus, the man has knife skills for days and I nerd out over that because I can't chop anything to save my life. KNIFE SKILLS! Why are you people still reading this? I am embarrassing myself.

03. On the other end of the spectrum, I bought a $.99 store brand brownie mix last night at the grocery, and made them for me to eat while watching the SNL in the 90's special and they were SO good. Mmm...cheap dessert...

More from This Weekend )

And oh yeah, I promised photos from the Rufus show, didn't I? I had a mixed bag of photos that I was happy with and photos I was less thrilled with. Oh well, better luck next time. Unfortunately for you all, my camera died right when Rufus came back out in his pajamas so I don't have photos of that. I was trying to update my show count, but I am having faulty memory. I think this was my 24th Rufus show.

Happy Birthday, [info]buffyx!

Welcome to the 20's - a fantastic decade to be in, if I do say so myself. I hope you have a fun day that doesn't involve freezing any portions of your body off out in the tundra. Go watch The Departed, you know you want to!

And I did end up watching shows last night,

Hey!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY [info]maka2000!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY [info]expatiates!!!

You guys are both super fantastic and I am happy that we are LJ friends.

T, I always listen to (and enjoy) your phone posts and always look forward to whatever layout you will put up next. You also single-handedly introduced me to some great music (Speechwriters, LLC - holla!). I hope you have a great year with all new and exciting adventures. Go Blake Lewis!

D, you're a very talented designer and I hope that leads to all sorts of new opportunities for you. I am still sad I didn't go to Lolla and meet you. I love your positive outlook and general level-headedness. But, I swear, Barney/Robin forever.

More Coachella. DUDE. DUUUUUUUUUDE. Rufus Wainwright is playing. There's no way I won't go now. I haven't seen him since 2005? That can't be right, can it? It will be right before his new material is released! Not to mention there will be sets from The Decemberists, Damien Rice, Arcade Fire, Interpol, Regina Spektor, Andrew Bird and pretty much anyone who has ever put out an album ever. NOT Billy Corgan and his bastardized version of The Smashing Pumpkins, though. Which is good because I was afraid that rumor would be true. That project needs to not see the light of day. I might have to sleep in my car on the side of the road but this just has to happen.

****

In other news, daytime television hates me. For example, I don't want to see Gastric Bypass commercials while I'm trying to enjoy some Taco Bell. It's bad enough that the women in the break room make me watch All My Children every single day (i hate everyone on that show except for Jack, btw) but I don't need to know about gastric perforation or whatever the side effects are. EW.

****

WHAT IS UP, PHOENIX SUNS?? Have I mentioned before how much I love Steve Nash. MVP! MVP! As for my other Arizona basketball team, we won't talk about that. I hope they can hold on to stay in the Top 25. In other sports news, I am going to root for the Colts in the Super Bowl. Unless you can persuade me not to. But I kind of love Peyton Manning and his stupid commercials where he wears a mustache.

****

I'm in the market for new LJ friends....recommendations? Friending memes?

EDIT: FOR THE LAST TIME, SERGEANT. MY NAME IS NOT SANDRA. NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT.

I figured you all could not live if I didn't post about Globes fashion. I do this for you, because I have no interest in fashion. RIGHT? Albeit a few days late and with no photos because I am the laziest.

You guys, listen, for reals. I know it's been bashed all over the internet from here to Clearwater, but I really and truly liked Cameron Diaz's dress. And if you know me, you know it hurts a little in the heart to praise her for anything. I could have sworn it was haute couture, but have since learned it was just little old Valentino, which is why the fit was right and when she walked, that dress just...wow. I am going to go all out and say it was the only white dress I liked. All the others put me to sleep (Kyra Sedgwick excepted!). I really have to commend her for taking a risk. I knew she and Justin should have broken up ages ago, it was good for everyone! All your hate should be firmly on Rinko Kikuchi. I guess you could say she went...BALLS OUT!

My favorite of the night was Ms. Jennifer Lopez. It's Marchesa and it's gorgeous and she wears it so well. The girl always comes camera ready and I respect that. And while Jen Garner may have won the Ben Affleck AND the baby that J.Lo wanted so badly, I have to say that it's obvious Jen Garner doesn't have a nanny. Haggard!

Hottest mommy is none other than Angelina Jolie. You guys, she wore ST. JOHN to an awards show. I mean, I just cannot love her more. Also, she looked so bored the whole time. THANK YOU. That show was boring. Start to finish.

Battle of the ingenues - America Ferrera vs. Jennifer Hudson. No contest, right? America looked amazing and her dress was so close to what I described in my "if I were going to the Golden Globes my dress would look like this" game I played in my head. Also, I love it when young starlets wear young but talented designers. Brian Reyes hasn't had many collections but he trained at Oscar De La Renta so expect big things. I saw what Jennifer Hudson was going for and I would have liked it better if she had glammed it up more. The Globes is not a funeral procession.

Obligatory Jenna Fischer/John Krasinski photo since the cast was woefully snubbed and they never even showed them on tv during the awards.

Yeah, I'm bored now. The fashion was SO BORING. I hope everyone is just putting it into reserves for the big show, the Oscars.

I opened up my New York Times headlines e-mail this morning (I know, but I like to at least pretend to be informed) and saw this:

YAY Rufus! Anyway, the NYT is doing a live webcast with Rufus this Saturday (and the king of "Great TV - two seasons or less category", JJ Abrams, on Sunday). Go here to register if you want to check them out.

I don't think I've talked here about how excited I am for Rufus Wainwright's new album. It comes out in April and I am hoping hoping for a nice big tour to accompany it. It's been way too long since I've seen him.

I. Am. So. Sore!

My body is unhappy, but my mind is good - I finished my first 5K yesterday!

First?! I know, right? But Tam, Heather and I all made a pact to do another one in 2007 and to run the whole thing. Which is a pretty big deal for me as running has long been my sworn enemy. The girls and I walked as a team (leave no girl behind!) and finished in 48 minutes, which was a bit over my goal of 45 minutes, but I was happy enough just to do it without dying. Seriously, I'm not in great shape.

We hung around the race site for a bit waiting to see if we won any raffle prizes (we came up empty - drat!) and then went for a celebratory lunch at Pie 'n' Burger in Pasadena. Nothing like a big messy burger and a slice of warm blueberry pie a la mode to keep your spirits flying high after the adrenaline wears off.

Of course we were spurred into action by the presence of Jason Dohring but this post isn't about that. I finished something! And I know that it sounds like I'm making a big deal out of nothing (I can hear people saying "It's just three miles!") but I don't know, I don't ever do stuff like this and it was exciting to me. Here is my acceptance speech: I am grateful to Tam and Heather for doing this with me and to Art who basically shoved me out the door and threw my walking shoes at me when I felt like sitting on my butt instead of training. And to [info]superbonbon4's sister Pam who helped me goal set and taught me how to train properly. And to all the bottles of alcohol I didn't drink? I'm coming for you! Bring on the holiday parties!

Also - big ups to [info]aprilbegins who did fully run the 5K! She rocks!

In other TV news? I finally have every season two Veronica Mars ep on my tivo (Tivo was also repulsed by the early season episodes and deleted them for me) and have started my re-watch. I was treated to this line this morning, "Let me guess, you've been listening to Radiohead again. That's it, I'm putting you on a strict Nelly diet." I wanted to throw my hairbrush at the tv.

Tomorrow at Fuzz Central we are having a head shaving event to support one of our deputies who has been diagnosed with cancer. I was talking to one of my female sergeants about how I had suggested my husband come down so he could have a free haircut. She responded that she had done the same to her husband and said she would actually let him shave his head if he participated and that she usually does not want him to do that. I just smiled politely but in my head I was all, "Wh-what? You have a say in how your husband wears his hair? What do you care?" I asked my husband about it last night and he said that most couples probably discuss hair things with their spouses or significant others before changing it. I don't think that would ever occur to me. So tell ME how you do it!

I didn't rewatch last night like I wanted to because I fell asleep at a very early hour. And since I am a slob, the dog came into the bedroom and laid right down on the work clothes I had just changed out of and thrown on the floor. It was cute.

Since Veronica Mars was pre-empted in L.A. last night, my dumb ass actually stayed up until it came on - at ONE IN THE MORNING. Then at the end I was so confused that I of course, had to stay up until 2:45 talking about it with Heather and Tam. Fast forward to this morning when I have to get up to go to work, feeling obliterated. I thought, "it must have been the sleep deprivation that made it all so confusing!" Not so, according to my friends list! Good to know. Art didn't stay up to watch it with me so we're going to watch it together tonight and I hope I can make more sense out of it.

But really, what I wanted to talk about was last night's Gilmore Girls because I actually watched it. That's big news for me because well, I gave up on the show around "Vineyard Valentine." Well, before that actually, because I didn't bother to watch that episode, either.

Underneath the cut be Gilmore Girls talk about last night's ep.

I'm sitting at work this morning with a cup of hot cocoa and eating the rest of [info]sweetcynic23's sweet potato cobbler. Seriously folks, if you're going to adopt someone off of LJ, Heather is your winner because the girl can COOK.

I'm going to attempt to actually do some work today because I know tomorrow I won't be able to concentrate on a thing so that means closing the little LJ window and not opening it again. However, I am going to take this opportunity to request your addresses for holiday cards. Now, I do NOT have the greatest track record for doing this (full disclosure: last year I never sent my cards) BUT I am prepared this year, I've even already purchased stamps! So if you'd like a little holiday cheer in your snail mail box from your pal [info]sinca, please comment with your name and address. Don't be shy, if we barely know each other or rarely talk or you're just a random reader, comment anyway. It'll be fun!Comments are most definitely screened.

My address is now all over the internet (Oh, sorry [info]singlestringwiz, did I neglect to tell you that?) due to these holiday card offers, I love getting stuff in the mail. I received my card from [info]darialjr two days ago and was so excited that it went right on my mantle at home. I love this time of year!

Things I PROMISE to work on tonight:

I was going to attempt to not update today until I got some more work done but I just can't. I'm too excited. I'm going to see Fiona Apple tonight! I read all the reviews in the communities (and a very lovely one by [info]2stars4arms) and tried to wait as patiently as possible, but yesterday I couldn't really control my excitement anymore and kind of bubbled over. It's still going on right now. You guys, it's been over five years since the last time I saw her in a full concert. Tonight David Garza is opening and wow, I am so excited. Excited enough to sort of forgive the person somewhere who wrote that David sounds like Jason Mraz. (It took all I had to not leave a snark-filled comment on that because - NO) A few warnings - I WILL act like a fool and I WILL cry. And I WILL call K during any song she wants.

[info]singlestringwiz and I are leaving right when he gets out of work and then I'll be staking out the venue (we're heading down to the show in San Diego since I was a moron and missed the on sale for L.A.). [info]mutinousmuse, I'll be looking for you but seriously, I will be a freak so that might encourage you to hide from me.

Fiona Apple's cover of a Jimi Hendrix song caused me to start talking to this skinny kid I worked with. The first time I saw Fiona Apple in concert (December 1997), the skinny kid was by my side, we had been dating two months. Her next tour was for When the Pawn..., and when the on sale for tickets was announced (just the on sale, ANNOUNCED) I screamed in delight in my drive way. She played two shows at the Wiltern and I went to both, the first night with Art, the skinny kid, and the second with O.C. E from Eels opened. That was it until I was lucky enough to catch her at Largo a few times, whenever Jon Brion would pull her reluctantly on stage for a song or two. Now, that skinny kid is still skinny but is now my husband and not a kid and there's no one else I'd rather have with me. Also, he'll put up with the freaking out and the crying with minimal complaining.

Tonight! I can't wait!
