Friday night's date night yielded me the new Andrew Bird cd! I haven't had a chance to give it any time though, since this has been the Weekend of Extraordinary Machine, but I definitely will get to it today. Just one month until his show at Largo.
Speaking of EM, I finally got all 11 tracks and there isn't any of them that I don't like or are even just "meh" about. I am in LOVE. Of course when I went to burn myself a cd of the songs, I realised I have no blanks left. Great.
I discovered Johnathan Rice this weekend, only about a year late according to my pal Betsy. Oops! I'm digging on the track, "Mid November." His voice sounds a bit sad but the music is really uplifting. I don't know I just like it.
And the 2nd best news of the weekend, Martha Wainwright is playing a show at Hotel Cafe on March 28th. Since I couldn't be at the last LA show she did I am going to work as hard as I can to get to this show. She will also appear on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic on March 17th, broadcasting from SXSW. It feels weird that she is getting attention outside of being "Rufus' backing vocalist," but I am excited about the possibility of more Martha solo shows.
I'm working this afternoon as a favour to my boss, so off I go. Have a fun Sunday!
