TV! TV! It was a lot of fun to sit down and watch some new stuff last night. I didn't have time for Journeyman so that might be on tap for tonight. I was really intrigued by the reviews.
How I Met Your Mother
While The Office is far and away my favorite comedy show, I have to admit that HIMYM is right there in a tie with 30 Rock as my second favorite. I think it's because of the warm feelings I have for the characters (and some particularly warm feelings for Jason Segel - hello!). This episode did not disappoint since I FINALLY felt something for the Robin/Ted relationship when he was yelling in the hall. Aw, they are over. I was actually sad for a second because while I was never of fan of their pairing, I felt how sad they were to no longer be together and how it affected their group dynamic. Okay, I'm totally overanalyzing. The 'tramp stamp' was my very favorite part of the whole show! I loved Lily's line about 'butterflies flying out of his ass.' And Mandy Moore's line about needing extra room for Barney's large vagina was an instant classic. The writing is still really sharp. I could have done without Enrique Iglesias' musical montage but at least he sang in Spanish (he's more interesting that way). Anyway, this was a great set up to what's hopefully a successful season. More people really should watch this show!
Chuck
Not bad. Though, I kind of hate the conceit that Zachary Levi is supposed to be some sort of loser who can't get a date because that guy is really attractive. But I did appreciate that it's at least an issue because he isn't over his college girlfriend. I am most interested in Chuck, so that's good since you know, the show is named after him and he's kind of the main guy. I want to know what happened between him and the former best friend and the ex-girlfriend and why Chuck didn't finish at Stanford. To me, that story is more interesting than the spy stuff and that's bad because the spy stuff is going to take center stage. The slapstick came off a bit overly silly and stiff but I'm going to be patient with that. Comedy is hard, after all. The main girl is very pretty and I like how she is with Chuck. They have a nice chemistry. Actually, all the casting is good, the cast is appealing and likeable. But can someone explain to me why the NSA and CIA are rival agencies who kill each other's agents? I really do not get that.
Anyways, it was enjoyable enough for me to watch again and Zach Levi is a real fine. I read that Adam Brody was originally offered this role and I am really grateful he passed, I think Zachary brings a likeability that Adam has kind of squandered. I'll keep up with it unless it gets egregiously lame.

Really? I thought it was Pushing Daisies that he turned down.
Though I heard the PD rumor about him as well, but I probably read the same one you did.
I still don't know how I feel about Chuck. I'll give it one more chance but I wasn't blown away.
I was also not blown away by Journeyman. I'll tell you why after you watch it!
It certainly gained me as a new viewer last night!
I hadn't really thought about that backstory, but I'd like to get that at some point, too.
Unless I'm misunderstanding how the NSA and CIA work--I think they have different areas of expertise (which is why the computer was working to keep all of their intel together and stop stuff from happening again.) However, I think that the NSA would have a vested interested in why a CIA agent went AWOL.
I finally watched and enjoyed it. Not that I am a Nielsen viewer.
I have Chuck recorded but have yet to watch. I'm not sure if it will click with me but I will give it a shot.
Comedy is hard, after all.
You're very wise.
